John Dominic Crossan - Doninic Crossan takes an interdisciplinary approach to the historical Jesus. Drawing upon history, anthropology, and archeology, he argues that Jesus' vision of the kingdom of God was not apocalyptic. Rather, he claims that Jesus believed that God has given us the "wisdom" to see what must be done, the freedom to do it, and is waiting for us to bring the kingdom about.

Crossan sees Jesus as a courageous Jewish peasant and a radical revolutionary, who deliberately challenged the social and religious conventions of his day. He argues that his message was sympathetic with the disposed "itinerants" in first-century Israel and challenged those who owned land, the "householders," to share all they had with the destitute in society.
