(In Conversation: W.V. Quine series)

VHS
90 minutes
B945 .Q54 I55 1994 pt.6

Burton Dreben is Edgar Pierce Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at Harvard University, and Professor of Philosophy at Boston University. He has published in the areas of logic, mathematical logic, and the rise of analytic philosophy and has co-authored The Decision Problem with Warren Goldfarb. He has been a long-time colleague of Professor Quine, and their friendship and philosophical proximity is well known.

Professor Quine defends his critique of modality in this program and provides an explanation of his characterization of logic. He presents his ontological stance in detail, and discusses his view of, and his association with, the historical development of logic. He then discusses his view of Tarski's famous work on truth, and finally he offers his prescription for how much logic the philosopher should be aware of.
