Portrait of a Pianist-Teacher
(Nelita True at Eastman series)

60 minutes
MT220 .N351 1991 tape 1

The focus of this 60-minute video is a lecture on the fundamental principles of piano performance and covers time and sound, pulse and beat, rubato and ritardando, dynamics and articulation, and much more. True demonstrates these principles using numerous repertoire examples at the elementary, intermediate and advanced levels of instruction. Scenes from a private studio lesson with a young high student show teacher-student interaction as they analyze and interpret Bach's Prelude, English Suite No.2 in A Minor. The video also includes two complete performances: Beethoven's Sonata in C Major, Opus 2, No. 3 (Allegro con brio) and Chopin's Nocturne in D-flat, Opus 27, No. 2.
