Kevin O'Connor, Ph.D., RPT-S is the author of The Play Therapy Primer and co-author of The Handbook of Play Therapy. In this interview, Dr. O'Connor discusses his theory of EcoSystemic Play Therapy, one of the few approaches which truly integrates the best of the major play therapy techniques. Dr. O'Connor discusses such important issues as how to effectively make verbal interventions in play therapy, how to choose the appropriate toys to "direct" the play therapy, and how to consider all the factors which influence the child's progress in therapy (the "ecosystem" of the child). The interview concludes with a visit to Dr. O'Connor's play therapy room, which has been set-up to reflect his EcoSystemic approach.
