Hermia is promised to wed Demetrius, but she loves Lysander, who escapes with her to the forest. Demetrius follows them with Helena, who loves him. Oberon and Titania of the fairies are arguring. Oberon's servant Puck applies to various people a love-potion which creates a bizarre series of alliances and arguments, but all ends happily.
