The Royal Shakespeare Company's frolicsome rendition of Shakespeare's masterful farce is indeed a departure from the norm, yet it is in every way true to the Bard's original intent. The "capriciousness of lovers" is the theme of this romantic and entertaining comedy. Shakespeare presents a group of lovers so irresponsible in their actions that their freakish behavior can only be explained by the intervention of supernatural beings. All the lovers in the play switch their affections from time to time, but they are not responsible for their infidelity; love makes them irrational.
