Zazie dans le metro is a comedic tribute to every Chaplin, Keaton, and Laurel and Hardy film ever made. Malle fashions the film into an orgy of outrageous sight-gags, film parodies, visual games, changing speeds and wild stunts creating a circus-like Felliniesque ambience.
Zazie, a foul mouthed eleven-year-old girl, comes to Paris for a brief stay with Gabriel, her drag queen uncle. She immediately turns the city upside down and discovers all sorts of unexpected wonders. Zazie's adventures involve an odd assortment of characters including an eccentric widow, an odd lot of international tourists and a beautiful young women with lavender eyes.
