Ten years have passed since the tragic events of Jean De Florette." Jean's daughter, Manon, is now a beautiful young shepherdess, roaming the rugged Provencal hills. The frustrated Ugolin is desperately in love with the untamed woman. But Manon is repulsed by the hapless man's pursuit.
After cutting off the village's water supply, Manon appears in town to accuse the Soubeyrans of killing her father. Ugolin, remorseful over his role in her father's death, throws himself at her feet. But her public rejection of him proves too much to bear, and leads to a tragedy that nearly destroys Cesar. But the old man's most heartbreaking moment comes when he finally learns the shattering truth about Jean, the son of Florette.
