The story of an ill-fated love between Teresa a society girl, and Manolo an ambitious petty-thief. She sees in him an exploited working-class man, for him she signifies hope.

Born in Barcelona in 1933, Juan Marse began his career as a writer in 1959 by publishing short stories in literary magazines. In 1965 he obtained the Biblioteca Breve Prize with "Last Evenings with Teresa." In 1978 he was awarded the prestigious Premio Planeta for the novel "La Muchacha de las Bragas de Oro."
