People have inhabited the Hawaiian Islands for 2,000 years. During those years Hawaii's original flora and fauna - species millions of years old - have fought a losing battle with the animals, insects, and plants that humans have introduced to the islands. But a new battle is being waged to reverse this tragic destruction as scientists struggle to save Hawaii's native birds, seals, turtles, and plants from extinction.
