Racial incidents remain a disturbingly common occurrence in America. Trouble Behind is one of the very few films which forces viewers to confront the roots and persistence of racism.
Trouble Behind searches for the origins of present day racism by looking at a seemingly typical American small town Corbin, Kentucky, home of Colonel Sander's Kentucky Fried Chicken. The film reveals that following World War I an angry mob packed black workers in Corbin into boxcars and "railroaded" them out of town.
Trouble Behind returns to Corbin to explore its presentday "whites only" reputation. In remarkably candid interviews, white residents reveal continuing hostility towards the idea of black Americans living in their town. There is only one black family in Corbin today.
