Carries the story of Europe and the Jews forward to 1917. This period witnessed the rise of nationalism, romanticism, industrialism and socialism across the European continent. The program covers the struggles for emancipation of the Jews and other subject peoples, and the granting of formal citizenship to the many peoples of Europe. It deals with the Russian Jewish experience; the Dreyfuss case; the birth of Zionism and other modern expressions of Judaism as well as the waves of emigration from Europe toward the end of the century.
