The Oregon Dunes, a land of magnificent sand dunes, lakes, forested areas and ocean beaches, is one of Oregon's outstanding natural phenomena. The Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, created in 1972 to provide for the recreational use, enjoyment and conservation of this unequaled area, is within the Siuslaw National Forest. The Oregon Dunes consist of a narrow strip along the Pacific Ocean, 40 miles long and 1/2 to 2 1/2 miles wide, with an abundance of wildlife and plant diversity. Journey into the dunes and experience their formation, distinctive geography, and dynamic nature, and examine man's uses of the area.
