One of the most successful foreign films ever released in the U.S., this zany, warm-hearted French farce takes on a new dimension, presented for the first time on video in its native language!

Based on the long-running hit play by Jean Poiret, La Cage Aux Folles won an Academy Award nomination for its director, Edouard Molinaro. It was also voted Best Foreign Film of 1979 by the National Board of Review and took the Foreign Press Association's "Golden Globe" as Best Picture of the Year. Acclaimed French actor Michel Serrault stars as an aging transvestite, with Ugo Tognazzi (Italy's most popular actor for three decades) as his partner of twenty years. When Tognazzi's son from a one-night stand (he figured he'd try anything once) becomes engaged to the daughter of a priggish government official, the couple must pretend to be "straight." This leads to a situation "in which everything you think could go wrong does - and worse." (Newsweek) Yet, "amidst the growing laughter," adds the Los Angeles Times, "the film makes its point: Be yourself no matter who or what you are."

French with English subtitles.
