This documentary explores the complexities of poverty from the point of view of the poor, giving voice to poor people from India, Brazil, Bosnia, Uganda, and Mali. The film demonstrates that even though the experiences of poor people vary widely by location and situation, they share many similarities: a sense of being powerless and voiceless; precarious livelihoods and security; isolation, humiliation, and lack of connections to resources and opportunities; and gender inequality.
Produced by the World Bank Institute as part of its Global Links series in close collaboration with Voices of the Poor study teams led by Deepa Narayan.
