This program explores how quality is being achieved, not only in manufacturing, but across the board in health care, other service industries, education, and government. Basic ingredients include: common vision, a knowledge of systems, statistical thinking, and continuous improvement. The key is to make the worker a member of the team - with information and authority - which requires a huge change in the role of managers and workers. Viewers will also journey back to 1945, when General Douglas MacArthur unwittingly planted the seeds of the Quality Revolution when he directed American managers to help the Japanese manufacture improved radios so he could speak to the people of occupied Japan.
