America's Rainforest

20 minutes

The rainforest of the Pacific Northwest is one of only three remaining temperate rainforests in the world. The last 300 years of unsound commercial timbering practices have almost wiped out the delicate and complex ecosystems of America's virgin forests. The resulting fragmentation of our forests, through clear cutting and selective replanting, has destroyed the natural diversity necessary to the existence of these majestic stands of timber. These practices have degraded the very soil these forests rely on and have replaced them with artificial mono-cultures that upset the natural balance and diversity of plant and animal life essential to their survival.
