One of the most ambitious scientific adventures taking place today is the quest to map and sequence the entire human genome. In this documentary, Dr. James Watson explains the goals of this massive 15-year project. Dr. Walter Gilbert explains some of the science behind mapping and sequencing genes and how scientists are using this information to understand better how genes control the functions of the human body. Dr. Louis Sullivan and Dr. Bernadine Healy discuss how the results of this project will revolutionize biomedicine and how society must deal with the many ethical and legal issues surrounding this new frontier in science.
