Pissarro: At the Heart of Impressionism
This film traces the artistic development and life of Camille Pissarro (1830-1903) who is considered the patriarch of the impressionist movement. The film relates his work to that of Cezanne, Monet, Seurat, Sisley, van Gogh and Gauguin and reveals how his receptivity to these artists, who were also his friends, influenced his paintings.
Jackson Pollock
Brought up in Wyoming, Pollock speaks about his natural urge to paint, as he paints on glass at his home on Long Island. The film is shot from underneath the glass.
Willem de Kooning: The Painter
This film shows Kooning at work in New York and Easthampton over a two year period during the mid-1960's. As de Kooning paints, he comments on the challenges posed by each new project. By integrating his remarks with the action of his brushwork, the film offers a provocative insight into the balance between intellect and gesture that is de Kooning.
