Mark Hixon, professor in the Dept. of Zoology takes us on an underwater exploration off the coast of Oregon. With the possibility of companies drilling for oil on the seafloor, it was important to determine what kinds of organisms were living on these banks. Through careful underwater studies of this area it was found to be an important nursery for groundfish, such as rockfishes like red snapper and cod as well as assorted flatfishes.
