In "The Shock of the Other", program host David Maybury-Lewis offers a personal meditation on "the other" - the people of cultures foreign to us - and what we can learn from them. Beginning with a visit to his Xavante "brother" - whom he first met 30 years ago and with whom he shares a special kinship - the program follows Maybury-Lewis and the Millennium series team on a journey deep into the Peruvian Amazon to unravel the mystery of a small tribe called the MaschoPiro who remain hidden from the outside world.
