Letter from Linus Pauling to Alexander Todd. December 19, 1952.
Pauling writes that he is happy that Todd has succeeded in synthesizing three coenzymes. Pauling and Dr. Corey are determined
to find the precise structure of nucleotides, as it is still undiscovered. He mentions that some Cavendish scientists are
working in this field, but that the field of nucleotide structure is so large that it cannot be expected that these scientists
will "do the whole job." Pauling asks Dr. Todd for crystalline preparations of nucleotides, noting that he and Dr. Corey will
probably first work on the structure of phosphate diester as he believes that knowing information about these substances can
lead to the discovery of the structure of nucleic acids. Pauling encloses a copy of a letter to Bragg asking for information
that would prevent Pauling from duplicating work that has already been done. He also notes that he is interested in the structure
of ATP.
