2 Feb. 1955
Dear Bea:
We are getting along fine - no trouble, despite a heavy schedule. Please tell Dick Lippman that our health is good - give him our love.
Yesterday we went to Agra by car (120 miles), returning today. We saw the Taj Mahal by moonlight, & then saw the sunrise beside it, & then spent the morning looking at it - & also saw many others tombs or temples.
I have written Chancellor Benitez that we might come to Puerto Rico 1 to 8 May. Will you check my schedule, & write him, saying that this week is free (if it is), or that it is not free?
There are too many strange things here for me to begin telling you about them by letter.
Love to Oliver.
Sincerely,
Linus
P.S. I trust that all is well with you & the labs.

Several paper electrophoresis runs were made, but definite results will not be established until fetal hemoglobin content can be checked. One component runs as hemoglobin-C does, while the other runs somewhere between normal hemoglobin and sickle hemoglobin. Would like to perform careful alkali denaturation studies before identifying second component. Tentative diagnosis of patient would be thalassemia/hemoglobin-C disease, with fetal hemoglobin replacing normal A. Will write soon with further information. 26 Feb. 1955
Dear Bea:
We have decided to stay in Tokyo until 11 March, taking PAA 822 then to Los Angeles, arriving 6:30 AM Saturday 12 March. I have written Holmes, asking that he meet us.
I'm very sorry that Carraro had to return to Brazil, and I hope that nothing else untoward has occurred.
Mitzushima [sp?] sends his regards to you - as does also Bongsadadt. Bangkok was fun, but nothing compared with Japan. I am dashing this note to you off before starting out for a Geisha-girl party, being thrown by Asahi (the newspaper that sponsored my public address this afternoon).
Love to Oliver.
Linus
The Bookstore has about two hundred copies of Dr. Noyes' "Chemistry of Solutions" on hand, and would be willing to sell any number to you for twenty-five cents each. This looks like a bargain to me.
I have not run across Lipscomb yet; and I shall let you know when I get some news about him.
I extend my congratulations to you on the birth of your little girl.
Sincerely yours,
Linus Pauling
