  • Letter from Philip W. Hemily to LP RE: thanks LP for his letter. He was interested to hear LP's comments on the crystal structure of NaOH*4H20. He will discuss LP's analysis and the theoretical hydrogen structure with Professors Bauer and Wyart soon. He is now researching structure determination of other hydrates of the NaOH*H20 systems at the Laboratoire Central des Services Chimiques de l'Etat. [letter from LP to Mr. Hemily 9-14-53].
  • Pauling Scrapbook: Program for the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Democratic Club RE: gives a blurb about LP as the speaker on the topic of "Science and Medicine in Post-War Germany and Scandinavia."
  • Letter from Fred Meller to LP RE: writes to LP for Dr. Fankuchen in response to LP's 9-3-53 letter. Lists the parameter values they have found for tin tetraiodide as well as Dr. Dickenson's values and the "ideal" values. [previous related letter from LP to Dr. Fankuchen 10-21-53, following related letter from LP to Fred Meller 12-2-53] [Filed under LP Correspondence: Box #95 (Fankuchen)].
  • Letter from LP to Mr. Dewey B. Larson RE: in response to Mr. Larson sending him his manuscripts. Suggests that he revise the manuscripts considerably before expecting them to be published. • Letter from Dr. Ralph Spitzer, Department of Medical Research, University of Manitoba to LP RE: Details Spitzer's new effort at learning the applications of chemistry to medicine, in particular the measurement of blood volume using Evans blue dye and it's possible binding to albumin. Notes Evans blue's structural similarities to Tryptan Blue, and inquires whether LP has any suggestions on using stereochemistry of the dyes and associated molecules to predict dissociation rates. [Reply letter from LP to Spitzer 12-14-53].
