Imanishi RE: writes that he was interested to read Mr. Imanishi's last note, however, he is soon leaving on a trip to Europe, and therefore will not be able to think about Mr. Imanishi's questions at this time. It seems that the questions are too complicated for LP anyway, and so LP suggests that he will not be of much help to Mr. Imanishi. [note from T. He writes briefly about Peter, and then relays a story of how the bus he was in after getting off the plane had a close encounter with a large airplane. He mentions that after only five days he is quite lonesome. Significantly, he states that he saw the King's College nucleic acid pictures, and after talking with Watson and Crick, he feels that his structure is probably wrong and that theirs is correct.

Writes about his evening of seeing a movie and going to dinner at a restaurant and getting lost on his way back to the hotel. LP draws a diagram of his trip. He mentions that the Russians are reportedly making an effort to be more cooperative. He then mention that after having thought more about the Watson-Crick DNA model, he thinks that it is probably right.
  • Letter from A. F. Hultorff of Kraft Foods Company, to LP RE: in order for Kraft to create processed cheeses, they use emulsifying salts. However, they are not entirely clear in understanding the problem of the elucidation of the mechanism of cheese emulsification. Ask if LP might talk with them about protein structures in the hopes that this will help them learn exactly how the salts are working.[note in the right margin in blue ink: "Diphosphate?   • Letter from LP to Max Delbruck RE: Discusses Watson's upcoming trip to CIT for a virus symposium. LP states that he feels the work Watson is doing with Crick is important enough to warrant him going back to Cambridge for the two months between the symposium and his planned research at CIT in the fall. He then states that he was "very deeply impressed" by the Watson-Crick structure of DNA. He goes on to discuss the problems that he had with the crystallography results, and how King's College had a better result that enabled them to deduce the double-helical structure. LP closes by saying that there is a chance Watson and Crick are wrong, but that it is not very likely. [Filed under LP Science: 9.001].
