Writes a favorable account of Dr. Biswas' work for two years in LP's lab in the field of the determination of the structure of gas molecules by the diffraction of electrons.   • Letter from LP to Peter Pauling RE: Mentions that he recently visited UC Riverside to examine a collection of organic phosphate compounds. He mentions that he obtained samples of various phosphate diesters, which will be useful in the nucleic acid work. He then goes on to discuss the sports car purchase he may make in Europe. LP then discusses nucleic acids further. He states that it is still not clear to him, through Peter's correspondence and a letter from Watson to Delbruck that LP obtained, what the Watson-Crick structure is. He mentions that he has solved many of the spatial issues of his molecule by rotating the phosphate groups. LP writes that Franklin just wrote him and that she feels strongly that the phosphate groups must be located on the outside of the molecule. LP states that he has assumed that the phosphates were located in the center of the molecule all along. He goes on to say he doesn't think much of the argument of the instability of his DNA molecule due to the packing of negative charges. He notes other molecules that also have close negative charges. LP also mentions that RNA could take a similar form to his DNA structure, with some modification. LP closes by mentioning his recent focus on ferromagnetism. [Filed under LP Science: 9.001].

Imanishi RE: writes that Dr. Gutenberg has transferred Mr. Imanishi's paper to him and goes on to explain that he himself does not know enough about metallurgical processes to give an opinion on the special processes that he describes.
