- LP uses the Cochran, Crick and Vand formula to perform various calculations on nucleic acid structures.
- Letter from LP to A.R. Todd, University of Cambridge RE: Mentions that he is happy that Todd has succeeded in synthesizing
three coenzymes. He goes on to discuss the fact that he knows people at the Cavendish are working on the problem of nucleic
acid structure, and would like to avoid duplicating their experiments. LP would be thankful if crystalline nucleic acid would
be sent his way. He writes that he may tackle the problem of structure by first doing investigations into generic phosphate
diesters. He then states that he thinks he and Corey have determined a structure for nucleic acid which is quite "beautiful,"
and he states that he has no doubt as to the correctness of it. He ends by mentioning that he is becoming interested in determining
the structure of ATP [Todd synthesized ATP in 1948?]. [Filed under LP Science: 9.001].
- Letter from LP to Henry Allen Moe, Guggenheim Memorial Foundation RE: In response to a newspaper clipping sent by Moe to LP
regarding the work of "Todd" with coenzymes, LP discusses his work and many achievements. LP also states that he has recently
elucidated the structure of nucleic acids, which he and Corey will announce in a month. [Filed under LP Science: 14.010].
- Letter from LP to Mr. Allan Beek RE: Is interested in Mr. Beek's letter of 12-17-52. However, does not have much to say about it. [letter from Mr. Beek to LP 12-17-52]
- Letter from LP to Lindvall RE: The proposal of the biology department's entering into research with the Lilly Company is satisfactory,
but that the agreement be rewritten so the impression is not that the research is being done for Lilly. [Letter from F.C.
Lindvall to Contracts Committee 12-18-52].
