"Mons. Paris thinks it would be a good idea to increase the discussion on fundamental particles: especially their discovery
and properties. It said that the French edition of Gen. Chem. wouldn't sell
very well even if brought out in paper covers because the French students don't have any money to buy any books. Prof. Paris
is carrying on work on the rotation of complexes in crystals: especially the
NH4 + ion. He asked when a new edition of the Nature of the Chemical Bond would appear and said there was a great need for a
2nd edition."
- "Paris. Bernal wrote to be sure we'd come to Birkbeck to talk to Carlyle about the structure of ribonuclease in relation to
our protein structures"
- "Paris. Feather rachis Keratin. Jim Watson suggested that feather rachis keratin might have a completely different structure
than that suggested by P and C. he said that the succession of layer lines is that
expected for a helix with identity distance 94.6 A. or twice this, and that the infra red data indicate [alpha] helixes approximately
at right angles to the axis instead of parallel to the axis. He suggested
that the repeating unit might be a short segment of [alpha] helix with these units themselves in a helical arrangement. The
data in Table I of PandC indicate that the large helix is about 38 A in diameter,
and the data in Table II suggest that there might be 31 units in perhaps 4 turns. Examination of the layer lines with use
of the equation of [Cochasen?], Crick, and Vand might settle this matter."

trinitate, the explosive in dynamite) is made by C10H5(OH)3 + 3HNO3 [to] C10H5(NO3)3 + H2O. IF dynamite contains - % NG, how much glycerine and how much HNO3 would be needed to make 1 ton?"
