July 5, 1938
Professor W. A. Noyes
Pilgrim, Michigan
I am glad to see the recent letters by Fieser and Clark enclosed with your letter of June 29th.
In writing you a few days ago about the Catalogue of Ring Systems I suggested two methods of publication, alternative to that of inclusion in the Monograph Series. On thinking about the matter further, I have seen that it might be impossible to arrange either of these alternatives, and, as I said in my previous letter, I would then be willing to vote in favor of publishing the Catalogue.
I wish to thank you for your remarks about my address at the dedication of the Crellin Laboratory. We are hoping that we shall be able to make some contribution from the chemical side to the solution of the difficult problems of biology.
With best regards, I am
Sincerely yours,
Linus Pauling

Mr. Barrett
C.I.T.
Dear Mr. Barrett:
The accompanying requisitions are for furniture needed to equip the Crellin Laboratory for the work which will be carried on during the coming year. Requisitions for additional students writing desks and chairs will be sent to you by Dr. Beckam. Last year the Building Committee authorized the purchase only of sufficient furniture for the needs of the Department during this spring, and now that we are moving our apparatus from the Astrophysics Building and that there is a large increase in the number of graduate students and advanced men in organic chemistry, additional furniture is needed. The cost of this should be borne by the Crellin Fund; since the amount of money remaining in the fun will not be known for another month and it is necessary that the orders for the furniture be put through at once. I request that this be done, with the understanding that the expense will be borne in part by the Rockefeller Fund and in part by the Chemistry Maintenance in case that the amount of the Crellin Fund turns out to be too small.
Respectfully yours,
Linus Pauling
