Oregon State University Faculty Senate unanimously approved an Open Access Policy at the June 13, 2013 Faculty Senate meeting. The policy directs faculty to submit an electronic copy of the accepted (post-peer review, pre-typeset) manuscript of their articles to OSU Libraries for dissemination via the ScholarsArchive@OSU institutional repository. The policy grants Oregon State University a non-exclusive license to exercise any and all rights under copyright relating to its faculty's scholarly articles, in any medium, and to authorize others to do the same, provided that the articles are not sold for a profit. Implementation details will soon be made available on the Center for Digital Scholarship web page. OSU Libraries and Press celebrated outstanding work during the last year in an award ceremony attended by enthusiastic staff and proud family members on May 9. The Totten Scholarship recognizes students who have been employed at OSU Libraries for at least three consecutive terms and who exhibit excellent qualities at work such as leadership, initiative, ambition, strong customer service ethic, and reliability. Congratulations to Rachel Campbell, Meyee Cha, Kallie MacKay, and Lauren Mayer, our Totten scholarship winners for this year, who received a certificate and $250. The $750 Totten Graduating Student award goes to a deserving, graduating student who has been employed at OSU Libraries for at least two academic years, has demonstrated outstanding work performance, and has exhibited excellent qualities at work such as leadership, initiative, ambition, strong customer service ethic, and reliability. This year the award went to Regina Pimentel who works in Special Collections & Archives Research Center. The award ceremony also paid tribute to employees for their years of service. Diane Siple was recognized for her 30 years’ service to the University. The Excellence Awards went to Rima Reves and Trevor Sandgathe. OSU Libraries & Press is proud to announce that one of our student employees, Hannah Mahoney, received the "OSU's Undergraduate Researcher of the Year for the College of Liberal Arts" award. Ms. Mahoney's research project A Global Affair: Understanding 1960s Geopolitics Through the 1964-1965 New York World’s Fair is a compelling glimpse into the United States international political relationships at that time. Ms. Mahoney was also the 2013 OSU Libraries & Press Undergraduate Research Award and will receive the History department's Robert Wayne Smith Book Award, which "honors the author of the best research paper or review essay submitted in a history course during the academic year."
