Guin Library Collection & Resources

Locating Library Material

Books, reports, journals, maps

OSU Libraries' online catalog, provides access to the collections housed at HMSC as well as those on the main campus in Corvallis. The location abbreviation for Guin Library materials is "HMSC". The catalog can be accessed from all of the computers in the library.

The card catalog has not been updated since July 1989, but is still useful for browsing subjects or searching for older serial titles.

Journals

Journals may be searched as a separate file in Oasis:  click on "Limit Search to Journals."  Journal titles held by the Guin Library are listed in a green booklet kept in the Reference Area. This is a handy, though dated, alphabetical list with call numbers.

Current journals are shelved alphabetically by title in the Display Area. Bound journals are shelved with the books by Library of Congress call number in the Stacks.

Selected journals from the Valley Library are displayed in the Reference Area. These arrive daily and are kept at the Guin Library for two days. A notice of current titles on review is posted to the Guin Library News electronic mailing list, which is available to HMSC personnel. To subscribe, see: http://lists.oregonstate.edu/mailman/listinfo/guinlibrarynews

Journal articles

Print and Internet indexes are available to find journal articles. Print indexes for older material are shelved in the Reference Area. The electronic indexes are available via the Valley Library Research Gateway . Ask the library's staff for assistance.
