Welcome to the OSU Libraries News and Events page!

The Valley Library invites you to an awards ceremony and reception for the two winners of the 2014-15 Library Undergraduate Research Awards (LURA). Please join us in this celebration in The Valley Library Rotunda on May 20 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. A reception with free refreshments will follow the ceremony.

Jenna Proctor’s winning paper is “The Great Hall: A Story of Promise, Lost Opportunity and the Plight of the Liberal Arts.” Andrew Osborn’s winning paper is “Investigations of Pactamycin Biosynthesis.” Both writers are being awarded a $1,000 scholarship for their winning research papers thanks to the generosity of Gilbert and Marie Cleasby. An honorable mention went to Andrew Su for his paper on “The Atlantic Theatre: Why the British Stopped Confederate Shipbuilding in Great Britain.” At the May 20 event, the award winners will give short talks about how they selected their topics and how their research was done.

Does your research involve searching the chemistry literature?  If so, the Valley Library is hosting a SciFinder training (4/29) by Keven Seguin from Chemical Abstracts Service. SciFinder is a chemistry research database that provides access to references, substances and reactions.  Discussion and demonstration will include: topic searching, reaction searching, structure searching, ordering chemicals with ChemCATS, setting up research alerts, and using SciPlanner. Seating is limited so registration is encouraged:  http://osulibrary.oregonstate.edu/graduates/workshops/scifinder-scholar-become-chemistry-research-pro
