Learning Commons Overview
The Valley Library's Learning Commons (LC) offers services and resources to help OSU students and faculty work and study.
- The Library's Reference Center is the hub of the IC. Reference staff help students and faculty to plan a research strategy, learn to effectively use electronic tools for retrieving information, and find answers to their questions, including untangling difficult or incomplete citations. Student assistants are available to help with software applications and technology troubleshooting. Reference services are available at or (541) 737-7295.
- The Collaborative Learning Center provides tutoring and one-on-one assistance. Tutoring services are provided by campus career services, the physics, chemistry, and math departments, the Writing Center and the Library.
- Computer Workstations are available with word processing and other Microsoft Office applications. Students must log on with their ONID accounts to access this software and to charge printing to their ONID account.
- DVDs and videos can be viewed on players and monitors available in the IC.
- Two stand alone CD Workstations are available for playing OSU Library CDs.
- GIS software packages are available on one computer workstation in the IC. Students must log on with their ONID accounts. Help with using this software is available at the Milne Computer Center.
- The Adaptive Technology Workstation include screen readers and magnifiers, scanners and a range of adaptive software and hardware are available for users with disabilities.
- Laptop computers can be checked out by OSU students, faculty and faculty from Circulation for in-building use. The Valley Library offers OSU students, faculty and staff wireless connections to the OSU Public Network. Personal laptop computers owned by OSU students, faculty, and staff may also use this network.
