Collection Development

Donations of Gift Materials for the Library Collection

The Library welcomes gifts of appropriate books, periodicals and other materials. All gifts are accepted with the understanding that the Library will become the sole owner of the material and may sell or otherwise dispose of anything that it does not add to the collection. When requested, gifts will be acknowledged with a brief letter over the signature of the Head of Collection Development thanking the donor for his or her interest in the Library.

The Head of Collection Development will advise the potential donor that an appraisal for tax purposes made by a disinterested expert is the responsibility of the donor and is necessary if the value of the gift is of significant size, $5,000 or more. The Library will assist the donor in meeting this responsibility by providing a list of qualified appraisers. Appraisal policy

The Head of Collection Development coordinates the examination of gift materials by the appropriate subject librarians and is responsible for disposition of materials not added to the collections.
