Index to Unnumbered Photographs

Explanation and Instructions to Researchers

This index provides subject access to photographs that have not been assigned individual item numbers and therefore have not been indexed in the card catalog system. Locations can be found in inventories to these collections.

In the sections of the index you will find references for campus buildings, subjects, individuals, organizations, and geographic names. Below each reference you will find one or more entries.

If the entry begins with "P" followed by 3 numbers, you will find the location of these photographs in the guide for the Photograph ("P") Group indicated and specifically under the accession number that may be given after the group name. In the following example, photographs of Withycombe House can be found in the College of Home Economics Photograph Group (P044) under accession 91:159:

  • Buildings-Withycombe House
    • P044 - College of Home Economics; 91:159

If the entry begins with "MSS", you will find the location of these photographs in the guide for the Manuscripts Collection ("MSS"). In the following example, photographs of Camp Adair can be found in the Roland Eugene Dimick Papers of the Manuscripts Collection:

  • Camp Adair (Or.)
    • MSS - Dimick, Roland Eugene, Papers

Entries that begin with "RG" are for photographs that have been retained in record groups because of the nature of the materials that they are a part of. These are usually photographs that are a part of scrapbooks and annual, biennial, or research reports. In the following example, photographs of the Food Industries Lab in Astoria can be found in Subgroup 1, Series 6, of the Agricultural Experiment Station Records (RG 25):

  • Food Industries Laboratory (Astoria)
    • RG025 - Agricultural Experiment Station, SG 1, Series 6-Annual/biennial reports
