Scope and Content Note

Includes photographs and postcards of artwork and architecture in Europe collected by Fairbanks. Organized into two series: 1. Postcards; and 2. Photo and postcard albums. The postcards are arranged by location.

Transferred to the Archives from the Kerr Library in August 1979.


Biographical Note

Fairbanks was born in Payson, Utah on April 30, 1878. He received certificates from three art schools in Paris between 1906 and 1909. In 1916 he married Pauline White. From 1918-1922 Fairbanks was Extension Instructor at Utah and Utah State Universities. From 1923 to 1946 he was Professor of Art and Architecture and chair of the department at Oregon State College. Fairbanks died in Corvallis on October 2, 1946. Fairbanks Hall, which houses the Art Department, is named for him.
