Scope and Content Note

Arranged into 2 series: Scrapbooks and Correspondence. This collection includes 2 scrapbooks prepared for Allworth -- one commemorating 25 years of service (1954) and the other his retirement (1963). The scrapbooks include letters and photographs from former Memorial Union Presidents and other officers. Other correspondence (primarily Christmas cards) from alumni are also included in the collection.

Biographical Note

Edward Christopher Allworth was born 6 July 1895 in Battle Ground, Washington. He graduated from Oregon Agricultural College in 1916 with a degree in Commerce. He served in the U.S. Army from 1917 to 1922 and received the Congressional Medal of Honor and other military decorations. Allworth joined the College faculty in 1925 as secretary of the Alumni Association, secretary of the Memorial Union Board of Governors, and manager of the Memorial Union. Known to students as "The Major," he was instrumental in planning and fundraising for the Memorial Union and served as the Manager for 38 years until his retirement in 1963. Allworth died 24 June 1966 in Portland, Oregon.
